The Adventures Of Tile Girl

Once Upon A Time...

Tile Girl started many, many years ago when my younger sister was in boot camp. We were writing letters to each other (an archaic way of communicating but much more fun than email) and she started drawing stick figures to help describe what she was doing at boot camp. At that time I was helping my husband tile a section of our basement floor. After seeing her stick figure drawings I started to draw stick figures in my letters to her. These events were the inspiration behind the Tile Girl comic. It began as an attempt to amuse my sister while she was away beginning her service to our country. Tile girl started as a pencil stick figure comic.
Once my sister was done with boot camp and back in the area I set aside Tile Girl for many years. Then, one day, I found myself living abroad with a lot of free time on my hands and I decided to bring Tile Girl back to life. This time, however, I was going to use the computer so I could add color and more detail. This was something I, for a long time, had in the back of my mind that I wanted to do. So after many frustrating weeks of learning to use a program for drawing (and driving my husband crazy with my impatience with computers) I finally mastered enough of the program to begin. With these new skills I was able to edit my original and enhance it with many more details. Now Tile Girl is available for all to see and enjoy!

So Who is Tile Girl?

Tile Girl is not a super hero. She does not have any super powers. She does not wear a costume, mask, or any type of disguise. She does not wear tight clothes or revealing shirts. She does not have big boobs and does not run around in high heels as these things are not practical at all. Tile Girl is just an ordinary girl trying to do what is right. You would pass her by in a crowd and probably not take a second look.
But there are some attributes she does have that are uncommon these days. She does not swear or cuss. She is honest and loyal, telling the truth and respecting authority. She does not participate in the ‘facebook’, the ‘tweeter’, or any other social media outlet. She is not on her cell phone every second of the day; in fact, her phone is a ‘flip-phone’ and is only used to make phone calls.
Without any of these ‘special powers’, fancy outfits, or modern conveniences Tile Girl is our shining example of standing in the gap, and protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
